Zakumba: Astraia

Location Concept Art

The world of Zakumba is inspired heavily by real-world locations, environments and architecture based from multiple African countries. The Pygunjú region was no exception. Countless hours of research into countries such as Ghana, Nigeria and Niger helped influence the village and surrounding areas. Below are some concepts designed by our team to capture the vision of this area.

The Village of Pyrophestus (District 1)

District 1, also known as Belles’s neighborhood. The concepts was to design homes that looked shady and run down but would still stand strong against damage.

District 3 (Pyrophestus Village) (Dusk)

The design of this scene was to captivate the beauty of simple buildings alongside the setting sun. One unique aspect of the village in Pyrophestus are the Lava Pipes that extend all over the city. These carry energy and can be used to power homes and tools. This is a feat of engineering that took many years to discover but is now a common domestic use.

Market Concept 3 (Huts and Tarps)

The Market is quite large and takes up almost 50% of the village. This design encapsulates the scale of just the upper part of the village.

Market Stall Concepts

At the Market, there is always something new to discover.

The Market (Concept 2)

When at the Market, always look around and ask about everything. There is always a friendly face… most of the time.

Astraia’s House (Concept)

Early design of Astraia and her home staring off into the distance with danger of the volcano looming behind her. Just kidding. The volcano is not active…at the moment

Market Area (Concept)

Need Crystals? Food? Clothing? Tools? Random assortment of items from far of villages? Then the Market is your scene.

District 1 (Night)

The Lava Pipes light up the entire village rendering other light sources not as practical when walking around. Lava will always flow.

Market Concept 4

Now what could a giant pot be doing in the middle of the Market? Village meal maybe?

Crystal Garden (Concept 1)

The Crystal Garden is located on the outskirts of the village but surprisingly does not get many visitors. It could be that most of the Crystals are quite useless… or maybe it’s the amount of creatures you would have to get through in order to explore it properly.

The Black Forest (Concept 1)

A mysterious dark Forest…That definitely has not been described before. But the secrets this forest holds, may entice you to journey through.
